Prof. Rapini is currently the Chernosky Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Texas Medical in Houston, serves as Chair of the Department of Dermatology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, and is Professor of Pathology at both institutions.
Prof. Rapini has strong interest in teaching, and serves as a Program Director for both Dermatology Residency and Dermatopathology Fellowship program. He has won many teaching awards, including the Nickel Award of the American Society of Dermatopathology (ASDP) in 2005 and received the Founder’s Award from the ASDP in 2012. Prof. Rapini was the recipient of the annual Freeman mentoring leadership award of the Texas Dermatological Society in 2013. He is past president of several organisations, including the American Board of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatopathology, American Society for Mohs Surgery, and the Texas Dermatological Society.
Prof. Rapini received his M.D. degree form the Ohio State University, completed a Dermatology residency at the University of Iowa, and completed a Dermatopathology Fellowship at the University of Colorado. he is the author of more than 284 abstracts, books, and journal articles (136 peer-reviewed), and has had more than 447 presentations at major state, national, and international meetings. Prof. Rapini’s popular Practical Dermatopathology textbook is on the top-selling texts in the field. He also has been a co-editor of the two volume Elsevier textbook Dermatology. he is married with two grown daughters and one grandson. His wife, Mary Jo, is a psychotherapist.
