Professor Alex Anstey is a dermatologist in Bangor, North Wales, UK. He is Honorary Professor of Dermatology at Cardiff University, Advisory Professor of Dermatology to Jaio Tong University, Shanghai, China and is the editor of the British Journal of Dermatology (BJD).
Prof. Anstey has had the following leadership positions: Associate Medical Director for R & D (2000-2013); Honorary Treasurer, British Association of Dermatologists (2007-2010); Creator and route lead for Cardiff University Bachelor of Science in Medical Education (2011-2015); Secretary General, 13th International Congress, Porphyrins and Porphyrias in Cardiff 2011; Secretary General, 15th World Congress on Cancers of the Skin in Edinburgh 2014. He was elected to the European Dermatology Forum in 2015 and was reappointed as editor of the BJD in 2015 for a second three year term.
Prof. Anstey’s academic career was built on foundations of clinical research studies as part of medical doctorate thesis research. He set up, organised funding and has supervised eight MDs (seven awarded; one on-going). More recently, Prof. Anstey became interested in operational research for innovative service delivery solutions in dermatology. In addition to research and scientific publications, he is also devoted to medical education, and teaching. Prof. Anstey is married and has two children. His main disappointment is supporting a perennially unsuccessful soccer team.
